The history of Fort Prével

Fort Prével is a place rich in history. Discover part of it on this site.

A rich military history

Fort Prével was established before World War II to monitor the Bay of Gaspé and counter enemy submarine attacks on the territory. This location offered an unparalleled view of the Forillon Point, thus representing a strategic positioning. Infrastructure from that era is still present on the site, bearing witness to this chapter of our history. The starting point of hole #11 is located atop an old fortification, near the cannons installed at the time.

Recent history

For years, the Government of Québec operated Fort-Prével, turning it into a renowned resort area. It undoubtedly boasted one of the best dining experiences in the region, as well as a golf course and various accommodation facilities. During those years, Fort-Prével's popularity peaked, with tourists from across Québec, other provinces, and even internationally, delighting in their stay. From 1985 to 2016, the Société des établissements de plein-air du Québec (Sépaq) managed the site. Since 2016, Relance Fort-Prével, a non-profit organization, has taken over to ensure its ongoing operation.
